hiiii
okay so update on the birthday present i'm giving myself. the filofax or ring binder planner is still happening but it's something that was going to happen anyway since i'm nearly finished with my current planner and that isn't really a really exciting birthday purchase. turns out i was looking at the new steam deck oleds which are £650 and i don't need all that so i'd probably just get the previous version used from ebay which is around half the price. still not sure on that one though. definitely not getting the mini printer because the photo paper costs so much!! and you only get 20 and i'd be printing so much for my journal so that's just money down the drain. still thinking about the samsung flip 7 alsoooo. all this while i earn minimum wage at a part time job mind you.
but what i do really want, and have kind of wanted for a while but didn't know if it was worth it, is a printer! just a regular degular printer. i went to the library yesterday to print off my short story (hehe it looks so real! i did a cover page and everything) and i had to pay £4.40! it was 20p per page!! i do not want to do that again. i also have to go there to scan my zines from my etsy shop, and now i'm just thinking to use this printer to print off pictures for my journal. i know the quality won't be great but i don't mind. i think i'm one of those rare people that actually needs a home printer. remember when everyone had them in their household? well, not mine but you get the gist. simpler times. now i need to find one that doesn't come with a subscription. god, the times we live in right now.
no segue. so i came up with my own philosophical idea the other day and i wanted to share it with you. i think all of us have an idea in our heads of what our best selves look like, the most perfect version of ourselves that eats healthy, gets enough exercise, easily forgives others, is kind and respectful etc. but of course this all depends on the person. what one person values most, another might not value so much. i think it's crucial as humans to know ourselves and in order to know what your best self, or highest self as i like to refer to it as, you have to do a bit of work, a bit of introspection. i also think finding out what kind of person you are in general is a fun and interesting experience anyway. so, once you know yourself enough to know what your highest self looks like, in a similar way to christians believing that jesus christ is perfect and that we should all aspire to be like him, bearing in mind that we are just human and can never be perfect but should still do our best, i think we should all be striving to be our highest selves. the difference between this and religion however, is that you decide what is important to you and what kind of person you want to be in the world, not what some men said a few thousand years ago.
i like this idea because it would encourage you to go on a bit of a personal journey and find out what really matters to you. if you don't know what you care about, what you're willing to withstand, what you won't tolerate, i think you may end up being quite an unhappy person. you may find yourself in situations that are upsetting or draining quite often.
now i also think because your highest self if your perfect self, that thing cannot be human. i haven't thought about this part too much but your highest self is probably some sort of spirit, and i'd like to think that this spirit has a connection to the source/universe/life-giver or whatever you want to call it, and it's through meditation that we can create a deeper connection with our higher selves, thus getting closer to the source. sort of like the highest self being a middle man. does this all sound a bit mad i feel a bit mad writing this down lol but i just think it's fun to think about. it's almost like how buddhists want to achieve nirvana, i think by striving to become like your highest self you are reaching closer to that similar state. so! these are the things i'm thinking about right now :) i think it would be fun to try and flesh out my ideas a bit more. if the two people that are reading this have any book recommendations, don't be shy!
i went to bed really late last night so i'm a little sleepy today and i have to work later. i might take a nap. hope you're doing wel!!
